I made a trip this summer to Philadelphia to enjoy a celebration of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Simeone Automotive Foundation is an automotive museum focused on antique Le Mans cars with significant history throughout the 1900’s. Each year they host an event where you can camp out in the museum and watch Le Mans while the cars featured in the museum are driven outside. One of my favorite cars that I saw at this event was the 1970 Porsche 917LH known as the “hippie” car due to its famous livery. The car was driven by Willi Kauhsen and Gérard Larrousse in the 1970 Le-mans 24-hour. Despite the rainy conditions during the last hours of the race, the car finished in second place! It was amazing to get to see this car drive around. It’s a rare right to see these kinds of prototype race cars move these days so it was well worth the trip.
